A Letter to the Sound Community

Dear sound community,

Over the last few days, we've heard a lot of feedback about our Video to Sound release.

Some of it has been supportive. Some of it has been critical. Some of it has been difficult to read. But I want to say clearly: we are listening.

I understand why some people feel concerned, disappointed, or even betrayed. Krotos was built with the support, feedback, and trust of sound designers, editors, mixers, Foley artists, composers, and audio professionals. This community helped shape who we are, and we do not take that lightly.

I also understand the concern that tools like this could affect parts of the sound workflow. I don't think it's honest to pretend technology won't change workflows. It will. It already has many times throughout the history of audio, from digital recording and DAWs to sound libraries, virtual instruments, dialogue restoration tools, and middleware.

At the same time, I believe the lasting value of sound professionals does not come simply from placing sounds on a timeline. It comes from judgement, storytelling, creativity, taste, collaboration, experience, and knowing why a sound belongs in a scene.

That craft matters. It always has.

One concern we've heard repeatedly is that Krotos is moving away from sound professionals and towards creators and editors, potentially building tools that compete with the very community that helped build our company.

The reality is that Krotos has always been driven by a simple mission: changing the way people design sound. As technology evolves, that means supporting a broader range of creators than ever before. But it does not mean turning our backs on the professional sound community.

Sound designers, editors, mixers, composers, and audio professionals remain central to our future. They are a core part of who we are.

Video to Sound is intended to improve a workflow that already exists today: creators and editors building first-pass soundtracks with libraries, stock sounds, and temp tracks. Many of these projects would never have involved a dedicated sound team at that stage of production. Our goal is to help more people think about and engage with sound earlier in the creative process, while recognising that professional sound design remains a specialised craft built on creativity, judgement, and experience.

At the same time, our commitment to building tools for professional sound workflows remains unchanged. We are actively exploring how to bring this technology into professional audio workflows, including DAWs and tools used by sound designers and editors. We will continue investing in products and workflows that help sound professionals do their best work and push the craft forward.

We are also working to provide greater clarity around our roadmap so the community can better understand where we are heading, not just for creators and editors, but for professional sound users as well.

We may not all agree on where technology should take us. What matters is that we continue the conversation openly, honestly, and respectfully.

Our commitment remains the same as it has always been: to change the way people work with sound and help people tell better stories.

Thank you for your feedback, your criticism, and your honesty.

We are listening, and we will continue listening.
