About this free Retro Gaming sound effect preset

Alessandro Mastroianni, Composer and Sound Designer

From the creator:

I’ve been involved as a composer on a number of projects, from feature films to TV series and games. As a sound designer I’ve collaborated with many brands (including Krotos!) creating content for their products and I own a company that makes sample-based virtual instruments called Sonora Cinematic. My most recent sound design credit is on The Acolyte trailer where you can hear a few of my sound effects licensed and my album Solar is out now on streaming platforms (Solar)

What inspired you to create this particular preset?

It was really a desire to explore some of the new features of Krotos Studio, while keeping common use cases in mind.

How do you typically use this preset in your workflow?

The retro gaming preset is a way to quickly collect and perform all these assets I created with hardware synthesisers and processed through sample rate and bit reduction effects to keep them authentic and faithful to the era.

What's your favourite unconventional sound source or technique?

I think my most used sound design tool in the studio at the moment is the LOM Geofon, which is a microphone originally designed to measure seismic movement. I wrote about it here.

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Tough one! There are so many: Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Richard Devine, Simon Jeffes from Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Jonny Greenwood..my first choice would probably be to work with a filmmaker though, maybe Steven Soderbergh or Jordan Peele.
