About this free Restaurant Foley preset

James David Redding III, Editor/Designer/Re-Recording Mixer

From the creator:

“I am a sound Editor/Designer/Re-Recording Mixer in the New York City area working in film and television. Also, a huge fan of Krotos.”

What inspired you to create this particular preset?

“Whenever I'm working on a project that has a restaurant scene, or even just eating at a table type of scene, I'm always looking through my library of sounds for something with just the right amount of activity, especially for the background. In creating this preset, which is actually part of a bigger preset that I'm working on, I can perform the amount of activity to my liking.”

How do you typically use this preset in your workflow?

“This particular preset is meant to be played as a scene is going by.  It allows you to adjust when and how much action is going to happen so that you can even play it around principle dialog.”

What's your favourite unconventional sound source or technique?

“Oh... I have many, though I really love a good low resonance boom that kind of drops off, but then again who doesn't.  Currently my latest obsession is contact microphones and ambisonics.”

If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

“Seriously... I mean this answer could go on forever... I have worked with so many greats in the past (Dane A. Davis, Tony Pipitone, Glenfield Payne, Mary Ellen Porto just to name a few) that I guess I will answer for ones that I would like to in the future.  I guess I would like to work with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on a project. I think in many ways our sounds would compliment nicely, probably because of the influence they have had on my musical growth.  In reality I want to work with anybody who is willing to explore the possibilities that sound can have on the project.”
