How to Use the New AI-Powered Sound Effect Presets

Guide
Advanced Usage

The AI-powered presets are powerful additions to Krotos Studio. They sound incredibly natural and are much more performable, complementing the existing library with a new way to create more nuanced sounds, as if you were interacting with the real thing.

On the X-Y pad of these presets is a cluster of pins, in three different colours:

Each of these pins represents a small chunk of the overall sound in the preset, mapped onto the X-Y pad by timbre on the X-axis, and intensity on the Y-axis.

You interact with the sounds by clicking and dragging through the pins on the X-Y pad. The pins that are closest to the crosshair will generate sounds, so you can still move around the X-Y pad freely.

Y-Axis: Intensity

For the softest sounds, use the lower section of the X-Y pad, and for the most intense sounds, use the upper section. Experiment with various combinations of these motions to create your sound effects.

X-Axis: Timbre

The AI Foley engine maps the spectral qualities of the sound effect across the X-axis, grouping chunks of sounds that have similar sonic properties together. Move backwards and forward across the X-axis to hear a more natural and nuanced motion through the sound effects.

Creating Nuanced Sound Effects with the AI Foley Engine

The AI-powered presets offer an exciting new way for you to perform sound effects. The resulting sounds are emotive and highly realistic, encouraging your audience to form a deeper connection with the story you are trying to tell.

The new presets cover many Foley uses such as clothing, crowds & numerous materials. But the new engine also covers other texture-based sounds such as water, crowds and even whooshes.

Rather than triggering a new gesture each time you interact with these presets, you can pause between two movements. The software will remember your position and will respond to your movements. You don’t even need to lift the mouse; instead, you can make a varied range of motions and movements with these presets that feel like you are interacting with a real object.

Use Case: Whoosh Sound Effects

A good example of the AI Foley engine is the generation of whoosh sound effects. Each whoosh preset features a pin ‘path’ that you trace through with your mouse when you click and drag.

You can do this motion at any speed and in any direction, and you can stay at certain points of the path for as long as you require.

Working with whooshes in this way means you can achieve whooshes at the speeds you require, whether they are fast or slow, light or intense.

Use Case: Crowd Sound Effects

Another excellent example which demonstrates the power of the AI Foley Engine is the Cheering Crowd preset. With this preset, controlling crowds is instinctive and a lot of fun.

You can control the intensity and pace at which the crowd roars, moving left and right to create new cheering material, then move upwards and downwards at whatever speed you require to increase the intensity of your crowd.

Conclusion

The AI-Powered presets are powerful and realistic additions to the collection of sounds now available in Krotos Studio. Explore these presets and capture natural sounding foley, whooshes ambience and weather for your video projects.
