Sound design enhances our experience of films, games & TV show, so when we add it to our own projects, it should do the same thing (and it certainly shouldn’t be difficult to add powerful sound effects to your own projects). One of the things Krotos Studio excels at is making high quality sound effects accessible to all kinds of creators.
One of the most important sounds effects in any project is Ambiences, also known as background sounds. These sounds immerse the viewer into the environment of your project.

…Hear the difference? The second clip feels more immersive and engaging, as its makes your project sound like it is in a real space.
To make these sounds, you would normally source some sound libraries online, searching for the right environment, and the best quality, then placing them on your timeline. But this can be time consuming, frustrating and expensive. Hours may be lost searching for the right sounds, and even when you add them to your project, it may sound like it is from a different environment altogether.
That’s where the Ambience Generator in Krotos Studio comes in. It makes adding background sounds to your project a Breeze.
There are two ways to utilise this feature in Krotos Studio. Text, and Image. Let’s look at both…
The first way to use the Ambience generator is text to sound. Describe your scene in the prompt box and hit generate. Krotos Studio will combine sounds from its library of over 10gb of ambiences which match your search.
As you can see and hear, each of these prompts generates an accurate representation of your search.
Another way you can use the Ambience Generator is with the new Image to Sound function. Import an image from your computer and Krotos Studio will analyse it, and write the prompt for you.
Krotos Studio analysed the image and generated prompts from each image. Again, we hit generate, and we receive a preset based on the input
This is a great way to create your ambiences and backgrounds. If you are working on a project for a client for example, you can simply export a frame from the video and import it into Krotos Studio; no need to switch your editing hat for your writing one; no guessing whether your description would match the director or the clients description.
Once you have a preset from your text prompt or image, you can use the XY pads to find the perfect balance between the elements. Remember, all the while, Krotos Studio is automatically recording the sound in the background. Just let it run for as long as you need (you can set this in the settings), then drag it into your project.
If you are working in Pro Tools or another DAW; or perhaps you are working in DaVinci Resolve, you can record the output directly to the timeline instead. There are multiple elements within each Preset in Krotos Studio, and you can record each element to a separate track.

And there you have it! Customised, unique ambience sound effects which are tailored to your project with pinpoint accuracy. By describing your project, or by importing a screen shot or a still frame, you are able to set an environment that feels real and immersive, letting you carry on with the rest of your project.
