With the Emmy Awards happening this week, we took the time to look at the winners of the Outstanding Sound Editing award from the ceremony.
The standout productions for sound this year included The Last of Us, The Bear, and Prey, whose sound teams all took home an Emmy for their contributions to the soundscape of these phenomenal productions. A massive congratulations to all the nominees and winners!
Prey, the phenomenal prequel to Predator, allowed the sound team to explore some of the most famous sound effects from this world, in an earlier, primitive time to the famous film series. Moonage Daydream, a documentary about the work of David Bowie, drew enormous amounts of attention due to its reimagining of the documentary format. The film deconstructs Bowie’s finest work into sound collages which weave music and sound design together seamlessly. The results are awe-inspiring and will leave you with no doubt that this Emmy was incredibly well-deserved. Read more about this project in this article from Variety.

The Last of Us turned many heads this year with the phenomenal TV adaptation of the widely acclaimed video game. The show and its sound effects were phenomenal, keeping the DNA of the games whilst bringing all those creepy Clicker sound effects to the small screen. Another well-deserved accolade.

Though grounded more within reality than the other nominees, The Bear has a gritty authenticity to its entire production that is reflected in the sound design of its Chicago setting. The only thing more appetising than the food b-roll in this show is the crisp sound of vegetable preparation and sizzling meats. Delicious!
